Cressida Bell, daughter of Quentin Bell and granddaughter of Vanessa Bell, is a British designer specialising in textiles and interiors in her Hackney studio. She studied at the Royal College of Art and St Martin’s School of Art. Cressida’s work is known for its uncompromisingly decorative nature and
its independence from mainstream fashion although undoubtedly influenced by her Bloomsbury Group forebears.
Sophie MacCarthy, granddaughter of Desmond MacCarthy, has established a reputation for distinctive imagery and a bold and joyous approach to colour with her slip painted earthenware ceramics. She paints coloured slips directly onto the dry clay which allows for spontaneity and greater tonal depth. Sophie uses stencils, paper cut-outs and wax resist and much of her imagery is a response to what she sees around her; the colours and textures ofthe natural world and the urban environment.
